A normal year has 365 days, but a leap year has 366 days. The extra day is added to February, so in a leap year, February has 29 days. Leap years happen every four years. This is because the Earth takes about 365.25 days to go around the Sun. Without leap years, our calendar would slowly become wrong. For example, summer might start in October after many years. Leap years help us keep the seasons in the right months. The next leap year after 2024 is 2028.
